Cort and Fatboy - Daily Mediocrity Since 2003

Friday, January 13th, 2012

It makes sense that Mike Russell would be preoccupied with horror on Friday the 13th, but not the horror you’re thinking of. He tells the tale of horrifying chutzpah that led him to enter into an art battle armed with festooned turtles. He discusses the horror of liking movie posters in an era when everything is giant floating Tom Cruise heads. He discusses the horror of too many women getting too much crappy plastic surgery because they work in an industry that gives them no leeway to “age gracefully.” And then he talks about the horror of The Devil Inside’s terrible, crap-ass ending, and the real horror of Kill List, one of the filthiest horror movies Mike’s seen in a long time.

Same story here T__T Watch out, listening to old episodes only keeps this beast happy for so long. And thus begins the ripping of throats…

Apologies for goofing on the upload. I appreciate you guys gave enough of a shit to flood the comments section when your daily dose of meh wasn’t waiting for you :)

You need not apologize. You give us free entertainment every weekday. Your meh is free to us and we should be glad you have kept it up.

It seems like there was a slow but steady gas leak in the studio, resulting in much hilarity from Mike Russell.

They’re working on a Star Wars game for the Kinect, with lightsaber stuff. It looks fucking *horrible*. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIiN0Tdzgsc You just stand there, wave your arms around in the general direction of some Stormtroopers to make them fall over, then the game just automatically *slides you forward* to the next set. That’s the extent of the lightsaber gameplay. No duals, nothing interesting.

Thanks for getting on the fixing of the upload, Fatboy. We love our precious daily mediocrity!

I had no idea about the *very* end of The Devil Inside. I laughed my ass off when Mike spoiled it. I would have loved to have been in a theater to see the reaction, but that would mean sitting through the movie and I don’t want to. =(

My personal most cringe-able scene that I can think of is from Pan’s labyrinth, when the step dad/General smashes a guys face in with a glass bottle.

My most cringe inducing scene was in the movie A Serbian Film. DO NOT WATCH IT. I’m serious. I don’t mean it in a “I say don’t watch it so you’ll go watch it” kind of way. I mean “Don’t watch it because the movie will devour your soul and shit in your empty shell” kind of way.

I like the Olly Moss movie posters. Especially the Episode 4-6 ones.

Gina Carano wasn’t in the WWE — she’s an MMA fighter and was on the remake of American Gladiators. She’s also insanely fucking hot.

Unintentional slip of the tongue.

Andrew,

I love the Olly Moss poster! The whole topic made me go and look at old Saul Bass posters. Awesome. Such a lost art.

Here’s one where the re-worked lead actor–all huge and svelted up–probably didn’t mind how he was depicted:

So I know this is just a shot in the dark. But considering you never push people to your store…

…maybe you should make arrangements with TFAW to sell your stuff through the local store *chuckle* They you wouldn’t have to feel bad when you fail to advertize yourself.

…not that this would ever happen..because that would require you to quit being Meh about everything.

Kelly McGillis and Tom Cruise in a photo together in 2010. Who has gotten work done?

She kinda looks like Tyne Daly in those pictures. If you hadn’t told me that was Kelly McGillis, I don’t think I would have recognized her.

-You had mentioned “Saw II” toward the beginning. The original movie poster, according to IMDB, was banned by the MPAA. The poster had two severed fingers signaling “Two” for the second movie, instead of the cleaned-up version with two fingernails.

-CORT: How far are you in “Oblivion” (without giving anything away)? I’ve played 25 hours and I feel as though I haven’t cracked the surface. I’m getting a bit disheartened. This is about the time in “GTV IV” where I quit because I feel as though there was WAY to much to do.

-Although the answer for Gina Carano was answered above, Carano, arguably, was the best MMA chick EVER…next to Cyborg.

-The way “Kill List” was described to Mike, a friend told me the same about “Audition,” “Oldboy,” and “Ichi The Killer.”

Your only 25 hours into oblivion? Yeah you really have only cracked the very surface of the game.

I think if you just play the core plotline and ignore all the side plots its a 60-80 hour game.

If you get at all side tracked..which we all do…its got like 300 hours of additional content *chuckle*

That being said its still adictive as hellp.

OldBoy and Ichi the Killer were brilliant. I may haev to look up Audition if it falls into the same spectrum. :)

banishedcougar January 17, 2012 at 1:07 pm

“Oldboy” was indeed a brilliant movie. I do not understand why in the hell Spike Lee is directing the remake. The remake will be dumbed down and it’s going to suck. Why even make it?

With “Ichi The Killer,” I felt that the plot had promise but Takashi Miike turned it into splatter/torture porn. It’s the same way I felt about “Hobo With A Shotgun.” A great story and throwbacks to 70′s grindhouse, but I thought several cultural messages were lost in the inescapable onslaught of unnecessary bloodshed. Not my thing.

An interesting fact about Carano’s performance in the upcoming HAYWIRE. All her dialogue was re-dubbed by another actress.
