Today’s show is one of those where if you don’t like one topic – just wait for a couple minutes, because it’s gonna get switched up. It’s a scattershot stream-of-consciousness flow with Ryan Fleming that touches on subjects such as: Why Call of Duty seems to be the FPS of choice even though there are probably better FPS gameplay experiences, the “scheduling error” that got Avengers Week at the Roseway canceled, the difference in storytelling focus between Walking Dead the book & Walking Dead the show, Deion Sanders takes control of his own narrative as his wife loses control in his living room, and why Twitter seemed to be aghast at witnessing the livetweeting of a domestic dispute when, had TMZ reported the exact same stuff, they’d simply be retweeting links and making one-liners like they always do, Mad Men on acid is good Mad Men, Joffrey needs a smack, and maybe the best possible adaptation of Game of Thrones ever is plotted out.

Dolmas. Grape leaves filled with a variety of tasty things. Very popular in the Levant.

I got as high as Level 9- Dangerous in Perfect Dark, and only got that far by playing pinball grenades in the sewers against 5 sims. Great game, though.

Perfect Dark was a great game then, and is somehow even better now on XBLA. Even though the original frame rate was in my mind garbage, it was still the perfect “sequel” to Goldeneye. I was tired of shooting anything that moved and Goldeneye was my way out. My kid had a 12 year old sleepover birthday party with 7 other kids. I rented 4 videogames and downloaded Perfect Dark XBLA. The kids pretty much played Perfect Dark the WHOLE time. Played Modern Warfare 3 for about 10 minutes and went back to playing more PD. Another incredibly overlooked gem is Timesplitters 2. It was everything Perfect Dark was PLUS it had a kickass framerate. It even had a few developers from BOTH Goldeneye AND Perfect Dark. It was overshadowed by Halo due to online capabilities, but Halo didn’t have any bots. Ergo, you can STILL enjoy Timesplitters 2 to this day, but you can’t with Halo due to no servers.

An amendment to my previous post. Halo on the original Xbox was NOT on Xbox Live. No wonder I regarded Timesplitters 2 much more highly than Halo. If you can’t go online, you at least have to have bots.

Don’t know much about Buffy but it sounds like Willow would get along well with the Boltons if she were transported to Westeros. http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/House_Bolton

Ryan Fleming talking about video game sales numbers got me thinking about the recent success of Double Fine productions and the game Shadowrun Returns on Kickstarter.com. I can’t remember you guys talking about it, and I’d be interested in your (and his) perspective on this:

Is the Pledgedrive/Kickstarter model a viable one for future game producers / game sales, or is these few examples just flukes?
Would it be beneficial for the gaming industry if the larger publishing houses are kept out of it? Would it lead to more interesting but smaller games?
Is $15 – $30 a more correct price for a game today?

This is a great question, and part of a much bigger trend in gaming. I’ll reply more later, but next Monday I’ll make a point to bring it up.

Brilliant ADD inspired show today (monday… whatever) I would honestly be surprized if someone didn’t produce Game of Thrones as a high school drama in the near future. It would be absolutely brilliant.
