R.I.P. Cort and Fatboy 2003-2012

Ryan Fleming wades hip-deep into a classic Nerd-Out. And it is good. Sure, eventually he gets around to discussing Microsoft’s new tablet, and whether they’ve made real headway towards being THE centerpiece of most family’s entertainment centers, but before that? Nerdery is afoot: Cort rewatched Drive, and that launched a discussion about electronic music of the 80s, before Ryan tried to defend Star Trek Voyager, which led to a prolonged discussion of not only the newest Star Trek game, but Star Trek fashion, before sliding sideways into Game of Thrones discussion, especially regarding how basically everything great about the books is being made better. Plus there’s a pit-stop in the realm of Spidey-land, some other comics discussion, and more.

It’s funny you guys get to talking about 80s, Casio soundtracks today; I watched Ladyhawke over the weekend and…man. The first thought in my head when the soundtrack began to swell, the first time you see Rutger Hauer riding dramatically against the setting sun was …wow. This soundtrack doesn’t fit this movie at ALL!
It was so jarring!

I played pretty much all the Star Trek games that came out between 1998 and 2005. While I love to play games I definitely wouldn’t ever call myself a game because I pretty much kind of suck at it, but I’m that kind of fangirl that sticking characters I love in something makes me always want to play it.

Also, I love Voyager, but I think for me Voyager falls into that childhood nostalgia love too. I started to rewatch it and stopped. Actually? That might go for all of the (relatively) newer Star Trek. TNG started when I was 2 (and I can actively remember watching from about 5 on) and Voyager ended when I was 16, so I really hate the idea of finding out something that was my go-to happy place for literally my entire childhood isn’t quite as amazing as I remember it. Even though I am confident I’d keep affection for the characters even if the plots didn’t hold up, why tempt fate?

Also speaking of Drive, apparently this was almost a thing. That would have been interesting

I like how the comments are short, and sweet: “It would have been cool, but Bacon fucking killed it as Shaw, and Cranston was awesome in Drive.”

And hell, if they’re really going to do Days of Future Past in the next movie to completely reboot the X-Men universe on film, Cranston could STILL be Sebastian Shaw.
