We close the book on July with a visit (thanks to one Mr. David Walker) from Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover, creators of “Gingerbread Girl,” and the new digital comic “Bandette.” We discuss why “Bandette” would never get made at the big two, the sneaky, scoundrel-y charms of their main character, and how EASY it is to just jack paintings out of a gallery if you wanted to (but you wouldn’t want to.) Also discussed: Paul’s superhero novel “Prepare to Die,” and why often the best parts of superhero stories are NOT the parts where people are constantly punching each other. Dave Walker shares the tale of his unmade “WKRP in Cincinnati” graphic novel, Colleen shares the tale of Wolverine meeting Freddie Mercury, a mini-debate about “Fan Art” breaks out, and Paul laments the difficult existence of Supergirl.

Great show, great guests.

A personal aside, I loved Tobin’s latest book description, looked him/it up, said to myself “huh, he looks like someone I’ve seen at the coffee shop I always go do work at,” something he confirmed a bit later when he said where he likes to go write. Ain’t that something. Bought his book, too. Not the first unbeknownst-to-me guest of David Walker’s whose stuff I ended up buying from their show appearance.

What is with these talented comics-making couples who all seem to couple up in Portland?

Or maybe I’ll just form this in a way that asks what I really mean to ask: do I need to start drawing or writing comics to meet an awesome geeky boyfriend?
