One of our regular Thursday guests leaves the show today. I’m not even kidding.

NOOOOO.
…Simpler Times
I DEMAND a recount of the votes. Big Jim should stay!
We’ll all miss you Big Jim! Enjoy that health insurance!
I would’ve gone with Strange Days before National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation for Juliette Lewis…
Jim. I know everyone’s gotta make money and pay bills. For the love of FUCKING GOD, man. I’m not lying to you, or blowing smoke up your ass. Please. Don’t work for Stream Global. That place is a vile, soul-destroying, horrible fucking place. It has killed more of my friend’s souls than any other place I’ve ever heard of. Ask Sara Machajewski. That place will fuck you up. You’ll have enough comedy material to last the rest of your life, but your soul will pack it’s shit and leave your body. If you choose to go, I wish you truly wish you well, but please watch out for your your philosophical asshole, because they WILL BUTTFUCK YOUR SOUL. Second worst place I’ve ever worked in my life. The benefits and 401k are so fucking useful, but…. god damn… At what cost?!
:End of Rant/Warning:
Luis Guzman should play Byron in his movie role! That would be god damned AMAZING!
He worked for Marconi for almost 2 years, and then a Porn store for another 2. He can handle a call center. Try not to send him to his new job with a bunch of rainclouds.
And seriously guys – SUBSCRIBE TO BIG AND LOUD.

Workin’ for a dickhole, workin’ with dickholes: Simpler Times.
GOOD LUCK JIM! You’re one funny mofo.
While it is an awful, awful place to work, there are upsides! So to counteract GeekEyeCon’s explosion of misery, I present reasons it’s better than unemployment:
1) It’s not the worst call center in the area.
2) The video game contract is the best one in the building, with tons of extra benefits. Waaaay better than the accounting software (where I was).
3) Once you prove you’re a competent employee, the only way to get fired is to be absent or late too often. Trust me, I tried.
4) It’s a paycheck.
So best of luck to Jim, and may the callouses of working for someone like Marconi help you withstand the management at Stream!
That sucks. I haven’t listened to the episode yet, but the thought of loosing Jim saddens me. He was great at providing a counterweight to Byron and helped to keep him grounded. The Thursday shows really improved once you added him. I’d say you need to find another guest host for the Thursday show to replace him, but it probably just wouldn’t be the same.
I haven’t gotten to this episode yet either, but I agree. Big Jim and Byron Beck made a good team, and contributed greatly to make thursdays as good as they’ve been.
Good luck Jim! Hope you can drop by from time to time
Well, THAT sucks.
Jim, the news that this is the last time we’ll hear you on this show for the foreseeable future is even more disappointing given how especially great the last two Thursday shows have been. Best of luck with the new job and I hope the schedules can be worked out so it’s not too long before we hear you on the show again.
Be careful w/stream. Hopefully you’re not in the beaverton office but that’s the only one I know of. Lots of previous issues w/TB. Face masks are useful. Good luck and hopefully we’ll have you back. Soon. You’re funny as hell.
Fucking white pyahple.
Good: I actually thought the reference to Gavin Macleod within the discussion of Chick-Fil-A and KFC had to do with the fact that he played the character of Big Chicken in HAWAI’I FIVE-O.
Bad: the departure of Big Jim. I’ve become a huge fan of what he does both here and with The Big & Loud Podcast. However, he still exists, and I hope one day to be able to check out one of his comedy shows.
This is an extremely good drunk show. I am currently drunk off my ASS, but I still had a lot of fun listening to this episode. I am not at all happy that Big Jim is leaving the show, (temporarily?). I am also saddened that Byron lost his other show.
I am a white straight man, who enjoys the fuck out of fried chicken. I’ve never heard of Chick-Fil-A before I heard these past few shows, butt fuck those guys (herf). Fuck their “principles”. Canada supports you all. And I can say that, because fuck every one else who disagrees.
Awww Jim you will be missed. Employment is important tho. All the best to you, catch you over at Big & Loud…..
Somebody starts talking to me on the subway, so I take out my ear-buds in the middle of the show..
..and after a while, put them back on. I hear: “Have I ever gagged on my own jizz? No I don’t think I have.”
Thursday shows! *draws hearts*
Jim, you’ll be dearly missed. Ps. Are you doing porn? Porn? Porn? Like porn, porn? Porn?
Big Jim will be missed on Thursdays but at least he gets to keep his plasma now.
Big Jim did make the Thursday show a lot better, i will miss him D:
What do you guys think about Olympic results being spoiled?
So sad that Jim is not going to be on the show anymore. At least we can still hear him on big and loud three days a week, which is great, but the dynamic was different on this show. Congrats on the job though!
Agreed. Congrats on the job, though!
Jim, a piece of unwarranted advice from someone who’s been in the trenches of call centers a few times: occasionally, when things are at their most frustrating and tedious and shitty, and you’ve just about had enough, it’s okay to lay into the customer just a little bit.
A piece of completely warranted praise: You are a lot cooler than you give yourself credit for. Good luck.
Now that that is over, I would like to nominate Leia Weathington to fill in for Big Jim while he’s lost in Call Center Land.
Leia would be great! Also, what about asking Jim’s partner over at big and loud – Don Frost? The couple of shows that Don was on with Byron were pretty hilarious.
Maybe they should just start a round-robin with every guest they can think of coming in to duel with Byron.
Duel verbally, I mean.
I will vote all the votes for Leia.
Aw, I’ll miss ya Big Jim. Good luck on your new job!
I have to wonder… will my dream of a sitcom with Big Jim and Byron being room-mates (with the occasional special guest appearance by their affable neighbors Cort & Fatboy) ever come true now?
The voice you guys were doing (pyeoples, etc) is a voice I’ve heard Ryan McCluskey do on the show before. I don’t remember what it was in reference to or anything, but I can VERY VIVIDLY hear Ryan’s voice doing that same accent in my head.
We determined it’s pretty close to John Malkovich’s weird accent as Teddy KGB in Rounders.
Also, we’ve lined up a new Thursday guest. We’ll talk about it on Monday.
FUCK! That’s it! Since I heard Ryan’s genero-Eastern/Euro accent I’ve been trying to remember where I’ve heard it before. Fuck. Perfect. Teddy KGB. That’s the one. Thank you. I can finally sleep now!
“Geeyeve heem hees fyucking myoney.”
Hey Jim, my ex used to work at Stream. They fire people for really shitty reasons. She told me once that a whole section got hired and fired in the space of 2 weeks because a company had considered contracting with them. They are also very VERY top down. Not to discourage you… try to use Stream as a launching pad to get to Netflix. They have a very progressive model, and treat employees very well. Great pay, great shifts (I think you can even get the illusive 4 10s)… I’ve had a lot of friends jump over to Netflix from Stream.
Sucks that you’re leaving. I would totally listen to you on Big and Loud but I can’t stand Don Frost’s voice. He also will scream into the microphone at random intervals and sing/warvel (is that a word?) at very high pitches which my ears don’t like.
The only time I have laughed as hard as I did with the Frenchy Downs is the original Simpler Times episode. Great stuff guys.
Don Frost’s voice is pure gold!
Good luck Big Jim! Who else will be both vulnerable and funny at the same time on Thursdays?!!
I’m like a week late on this, but – I hope he shows back up whenever he has the time. Loved Thursdays with Big Jim and Byron!
