A simple compliment to Courtenay Hameister on her award-winning short film sets off a chain reaction that leads to one of the most introspective shows in quite awhile, mostly focused on the subjects of mortification and self-sabotage: Share in the schadenfreude, nod sagely at the neuroses, as we discuss the idiot teenager hiding within, and the fear that they’ll break free from their holding cell and make a break for the controls once again. Why is it so hard to talk yourself up? Why does not selling yourself short feel dirty sometimes, even when you KNOW it shouldn’t? A discussion that starts out jealous of Jon Hamm ends with the realization that for many people – pretty or otherwise – we’re simply eyeballing a clock we think will chime the hour that the people we love finally realize they’re sick of us and our garbage – as if we don’t have the power to move the hands to whatever time we want.

A friend of mine goes to an art school and she hates the narcissistic self-promotion she has to do in her field, typified by this guy in her class who showed up on two days of a project that lasted 3 weeks, and ended up writing on his website that he was the main creative voice/artistic director behind the whole project, and even went so far as to say he was “commissioned by” the school, when you know, it was an obligatory class assignment where people from different majors worked together. It’s like saying your English teacher commissioned an essay on Hamlet from you. Asshole!

But you know, that’s the thing – he’s going to add that bs on his CV and she’s going to have a hard time phrasing what she did because her skill is just DOING that stuff, rather than promoting herself. And it’s a skill she’s going to have to learn to get a job, while he can bullshit his way into jobs he doesn’t know how to do.

Myself, I hate applying for jobs and re-working my CV because I also don’t have those skills. But I’m going to have to develop them in the future, and work on them more, because that’s the bullshit of modern living.

I want to become a hermit and live in the mountains sometimes.

I feel like a horrible human being for this, but I can’t stand In Bruges. That movie bored me to death. I just don’t appreciate it. I’ve watched it twice. I got through it the first time, and shut it off 45 minutes into it the second time.

Not being a dick, just clarifying something in a very friendly way- Chris O’Dowd from The IT Crowd is not British, he’s Irish :)

Britain is just England, Wales and Scotland, which is why there is no such thing as a ‘British’ accent. What people often identify as a British accent, is actually an English accent. O’Dowd is from the Republic of Ireland, which is not even part of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It’s a whole big thing :D

And speaking of crying, I did wee bit tonight, because my cat died. I had her since she was born (in my living room) so, I wasn’t too happy about that :(

Crap. Irish. Of course. I should’ve remembered that. People give him shit all the time on IT Crowd for being Irish.

But it doesn’t really matter, does it? They’re just “foreigners” to us.

And I’m really sorry about your cat. Lost mine in April and it was devastating. Don’t think I’ll ever get another one. It’ll be about a billion times better in about three months. I know that doesn’t help a lot now.

Thanks Courtenay :)

And I still have one cat left, hopefully she’ll live a bit longer, can’t go through this again right away. The one I have is the mother of the one who just died and she has yet to notice her absence, which won’t be fun.

And although, I too am a “foreigner”, you are correct as the Irish are technically “foreigners” to me too since they are not part of the UK. Ha! Stick that….you….Irish….people…..Couldn’t think of an appropriate response there :D

Thanks again Courtenay, it was very sweet of you to reply.

Micks. Mug-Jugglers. Bog-Trotters. Cat-licks. Potato-Biters. Potato-chuckers. Potato-Heads. Pogues. Paddys. Shillelagh-Huggers.

The internet: Making hating so much easier.

Ha. I knew most the words (I have Irish family) but I just didn’t want to type them :D . Mick or Paddy are the most common to this day.

Pogues is derogatory term for Irish people? I know Shane MacGowan is a scary fecker but come on. :D

Jon Hamm has said somewhere that he doesn’t understand the sex symbol thing and thinks he’s goofy looking. That’s something THEY ALL SAY!

Really weird… the last two Wednesday shows won’t play on my iPod. Just Wednesdays, though. No idea what the deal is. Anyone else having that issue?

I just yell into “it”. Lost it over that. Hopefully “it” doesn’t yell back. :)
