Lauren Weedman was on today’s show. We talked about everything. Or at least it felt that way. The star of “Bust” and “No… You Shut Up” is in Portland to do some prep-work for her newest one-woman show, “The People’s Republic of Portland,” and she’s a little worried about it, being that she’s from LA by way of New York, by way of Amsterdam, by way of Seattle, by way of Indiana. But that’s really no different than 85% of Portland anymore, anyway. Today’s show is a journey through varying states of awkward, inappropriate, funny, uncomfortable, warm, wise, amused, and amusing. Why the hell do we do these things we do, and how do we keep screwing up at it?

Great show, super guest. Lauren’s pretty awesome. Many, many years ago I caught her solo show in Seattle called Amsterdam. She danced, sang, performed, danced, was fucking hilarious. I remember thinking she clearly had the comic performance chops of others one might put in the same category-Amy Sedaris, Amy Poehler, Kerri Kenney. Can’t wait to see her show.
Good Show!
What an awesome lady! Had me laughing pretty much all the way thru. Great show guys
Great guest! Thanks for introducing your audience to Lauren Weedman!
It’s weird how much I related to Lauren’s anecdote about Jon Stewart. I’m not planning a career in the performance arts of any sorts, but I do consider myself a girl who’s more funny than pretty (and yes, it’s shameful that culture encourages women to constantly rate and then categorize themselves according to their looks but there you fucking go) and there’s been so many situations where I’ve made an ass of myself by just thinking “this is funny, okay stop now, you’re taking a joke too far and coming off as weird/creepy/unfunny” and just been unable to stop. Most of those times I’m drunk but still, it’s just NOT okay to ask a stranger to marry you and then imply you’ll kill them for the insurance money. Ha ha ha
wtf self.
I tried to jog while listening to this episode and had to stop several times to laugh.
