Mike Russell came to the show with a shovel, and the digging we all do leads to more than a few deep conversations. Not even Back to the Future is spared the subterranean analysis, but that’s what happens after you walk out of Cloud Atlas – you spend a lot of time thinking about the actions people take, and the reason for those actions – a theme not only represented in the movie, but represented in the discussion about the movie, discussion that brings up words like “yellowface.” The analysis even extends to movies like Die Hard and Evil Dead, films you wouldn’t think are necessarily “layered” but definitely have more going on than just visceral thrills. Speaking of visceral thrills – Denny’s is offering up Hobbit Second Breakfast. So that’s..uh… something. I guess.

Tom Hanks accents? You mean like the Bostonian accent in Catch Me if You Can, or tje deep southern accent he had in the Ladykillers?

Mike Russel I would really recommend you watch REDLINE which is basically like speed racer but an anime and with insane animation. REDLINE is probably the best animated movie/series of all time. If anyone who knows Mike sees this please let him know. Great show guys, definitely gonna go see Cloud Atlas.

Watched Cloud Atlas today. I’m in complete agreement with Mr. Russell; any flaws you could come up with are most likely true, but it’s a beautiful piece of cinema regardless. It’s sheer breadth and scope and ambition almost completely override any faults it has. Far from perfect, but you’d need to be a replicant to not feel something by the end. After seeing it, I just wanted to sit in a dark room for a long time and just contemplate my place in the universe.

Also yeah, Speed Racer is really good as, if nothing else, an entertainment center testing apparatus.
It’s the first thing I pop in after buying a new T.V. or sound system, to break them in.

Previously mentioned; Redline is also really good, as straight-up animation porn.

Holy SHIT the kineticism in the frame for Redline.

The first Back to the Future film is all about George McFly, he is actually the one who has the ‘hero’s journey’. He is the only one who has a true character arc. You could argue Biff has an arc, but he is forced into change, George actually develops throughout the film. And I love Back to the Future 2. :)

Cloud Atlas isn’t out in the UK until February :(

Since you guys were talking about the Denny’s Hobbit menu… Some poor fools had to taste test it. Got better reviews then I would have expected, which is not saying very much.
