R.I.P. Cort and Fatboy 2003-2012

It’s the last regular episode with David Walker. That means neuroses, and insecurities, and discomfort, and comedy in all the mean, scary places your mind doesn’t like to go, and advice from a guy whose gone into those places and survived somehow. That means Dr. No-Love, threatening to burst from under the surface like the Phoenix Force waiting under the water at the end of X2. Does the sky get set on fire with a righteous fury? Or does David learn to write himself a new story? Topics include – Dental slacking, Podcast admissions, Regret at Trek in the Dark, regret at screwing up Ryan’s last regular episode, and of course – one final crazy-ex-girlfriend story to send you wobbling into an unsure future. David had one last therapy session, and he stretched it into 80 minutes of show for you. So listen.

The two comments are unrelated.

Are all the old podcasts being scrubbed from the cascadia.fm servers? Appears only the last 3 months are available for streaming or download.

Kinda bummed that we won’t be able to listen to some of the old classic podcasts after the show ends.

I used to listen to old pods quite a bit, simply because sometimes I don’t feel like listening to music, and haven’t had a chance to update my iPod to include the very latest episodes. Then it just became a habit, and especially some of the Thursday shows are comedy gold on their own, as much as you could consider your brand of entertainment disposable. It’s not like there’s any direct replacement pod out there for people who like your stuff – there’s a bunch who do a similar thing, but don’t sell yourselves short, you were always doing a very unique thing.

I do take your point, though, about trying new things. Of course one has to give new things a shot. I think in terms of podcasts, though? Personally, I’m tired of trying new ones and them failing to impress .. so many pods are shoddily produced or just not funny or lack structure or then are obsessed with sticking to a structure. So even once you guys are gone, I’ll stick to my old favorites and their new episodes, unless a friend I trust recommends something good.

Still, I totally get your point. I was going to watch LOTR extended editions and get drunk since tomorrow is a national holiday over here and I’ve got nothing but time, but now I think I’ll watch three classic films I’ve not seen instead …and get drunk.

Yeah, I always worry about whether or not I explained myself well when we get on that topic (and yes, I do worry about whether or not I sound like a total fucking tool on the show!) so for clarification’s sake:

I’m not saying revisiting good shit is a no-no. That’d be blatantly hypocritical coming from someone like me, who has watched certain movies/episodes of tv, read certain books/comics upwards of 10-20 times. They’re typically works that have the requisite depth (be it visual, auditory, thematic) that makes returning to them still rewarding. Maybe some of our shows fit into that niche as well (which would be great) but I guess the distinction I’m trying to make is that maybe CONSTANTLY revisiting stuff you’ve already consumed is going to deprive you of a lot of awesome. It doesn’t have to be brand new, but if you have a chance to discover something cool, take it, don’t turn it down because you’d rather watch something you’ve seen 30 times already. Besides, that thing you know you love will still be there waiting in case the chance you take does turn out to be booty.

I’m guilty of it myself, specifically when it comes to music. I know there’s a lot of gold out there now that I’m not catching simply because instead of feeling adventurous on pandora, I’ll skip to my “Fat-Laces & Shelltoes” channel and zone out on 80s-90s hip-hop all day.

Bobby,
I apologize if I am repeating my question. In your post above and in one of the posts from the November 5 show ending announcement you mention that that site will stay up and there won’t be a need for archives. But will any of the old shows be available for streaming/download or is it just going to be a homepage without additional content?

I am taking your advice to try out new things. I have already started listening to the Big and Loud Podcast and will be giving the Chronicles of the Nerds a try soon. But, being a huge Cort and Fatboy fan, it would be nice to revisit some of the old classics once in a while.

What’s up is up. If stuff’s disappearing, it’s probably due to server space issues.

Basically, if you have a bunch of old shows, and you think you’re going to go back and listen to our garbage, I wouldn’t delete anything. :)

Thanks Bobby!
I do have a bunch of old shows saved on my phone, and I guess those will have to do. I had stopped listening to the show since June of this year due to work, and was just getting back to catching up on the podcasts. That’s when I noticed that the shows from earlier this year were disappearing regularly from the site. I now regret not downloading them when I had the chance.
You say the old shows are garbage, but I respectfully disagree and emphatically state it’s pure comedy gold.

I’m so bummed I won’t be able to make it to the last live show on the 7th. I thought this might be the year that I finally go to see you, Cort, and the rest of the show regulars in person. I had almost planned a trip to Portland during the first week of December to coincide with the Live Show, but I have to be in Las Vegas for a work related event. I guess that’s one dream that will never come true.

Will there be a mic set-up at the event for fan comments?

Sure. There might not be as much time as previous live shows, but we’ll try to get to a few questions/comments.

Hopefully nobody fucks up the whole night with a stupid question. :)

The numbers the dental hygienist or dentist says are a measurement of the depth of your gums along the base of your teeth. (0,1,2,3) They measure it in millimeters and write it down, so then they can compare it next year and see if your gums are receding. It’s not a judge it that tooth has “got to go.” They “put a watch” on a tooth that looks like it might decay. So remember to brush AND floss.
