The show is thick with electric worry. It doesn’t seem that way at first, as Cort and Bobby muse upon the majesty of Michael Rooker while Courtenay Hameister of Live Wire Radio learns a few things about desire, but then its her turn to teach them about serious life skills in the organizational realm, and how everything can be managed, even the amount of time you worry in a day. And its at this point that Cort’s worries come alive, and the battle of glowing neuroses between Cort & Courtenay look like a lightsaber battle. From there, we discuss the gentle art of forgiveness, and the not so gentle art of unmasking the world’s most infamous troll.

This is probably due to the crappiness of the Apple Podcast app, but every time I use the app to get a new episode, it claims the file size is 17 billion gigs.

Could be accurate. We talked a LOT.
That’s why I still haven’t updated my iOS and had to download that stupid fucking podcast app. Fuck that noise. The file is supposed to be 30.5MB, btw.
Re: anonymity. I’ve said it once or twice before but I’ll say it again: some of us are not anonymous to solely say shitty things, we’re anonymous (or behind pseudonyms) because we don’t want every single thing we do online to be within the reach of somebody with our name and access to Google, including future employers. Not even stuff that’s all that embarrassing; there are so many geeky hobbies that some random person working at HR or middle management just might not understand. (Some women also stay anonymous to avoid sexual harassment in certain online communities, sorry to say.)
I understand that reasoning, too. I have way too much information online for whoever the hell wants it (including shit I’ve said on this podcast). I think you can still preserve anonymity on a site if you have moderators who can tell the difference between needing anonymity for your reason, or to speak truth to power without consequence, and needing anonymity to infringe on the rights of others without consequence. That seems like a pretty simple differentiation to make.
John Scalzi pretty much nails it in every way imaginable.

I love John Scalzi so much. He’s an awesome writer on top of being a cool dude and a great thinker.
Another recent story of uncovering the id of a horrible person:

Something is up with the website for me, I will not play the audio.
Finally caught up on you guys. Took me forever (and four hours on the road).
Back in my college days a law professor I still hold in high regard told me that any of the freedoms listed in the Bill of Rights are rights only insofar as they don’t infringe upon someone else’s rights, either listed as an Amendment or existing as a base human right. For example, your right to bear arms is fine, as long as you don’t use your right to shoot your neighbor’s house and violate their right to live in (relative) security.
Freedom of Speech is a right for all people, but when you start posting pictures of underage girls on the internet, your (and by “your” I mean Violentacrez’s) free speech has lost its value because you’re infringing upon someone else’s right to live free of… well… shitheads.
I’d like to say I feel bad for the troll, but I really don’t.
